Surprising to see 6 of the top 10 and 10 of the top 15 publics are from Public B. Traditional Public A powers like Montclair, Ridge, Shore teams are in the 20s and 30s. Will they rise before the end of the year?
Thanks for the comment Kevin… There has been a shift over the past few years to a “size doesn’t matter” philosophy. If you look at the 2 matchups last season between the “A” champ Randolph and the “B” champ Chatham, they split two very tight games. Many smaller schools have put out some great squads and we don’t really look at classification in our rating/ranking system. As far as whether the trend will continue this year… time will tell. In our pre-season rankings, looking at the top 40 teams in NJ… 11 were Public A and 9 were Public B. In our first computer ranking, again looking at the top 40, 8 are Public A and 13 are Public B… Top 20 has 4 in each category… Pretty even.
